A few months ago, I wrote an article for Elvis International magazine titled ?Elvis? High School Yearbook.? A copy of this highly desired collectible was sold at an Elvis auction this summer, and the auction website showed pictures of every Elvis reference, picture, and signature in the yearbook.

Google App Inventor opens up access to everyone, clings on to beta tag
Google's famous penchant for keeping things in beta doesn't seem to have changed lately, as the company's App Inventor for Android is still keeping its Greek lettering, but at least access has now been opened up for everyone to enjoy. The switch from private to public beta isn't the most significant thing in the world -- up until now you just had to ask for an invite to get one -- but we're sure amateur Android coders and experimenters will appreciate not having to go through that extra step. The App Inventor's sitting in Google Labs right this minute, waiting for you to magic up (no coding skills required!) a finely crafted solution to modern living of your own. Amazon unveiling new, better Kindle Web app tomorrow
The new Kindle for the Web will compete directly with Google's new eBookstore, which just launched in the U.S. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed to Computerworld that Kindle Web will "enable users to read full books in the browser and [allow] any Website to become a bookstore offering Kindle books."
We'll have a look at the new app tomorrow, and hopefully this time we'll be able to peruse favorites like Patton Oswalt's Zombie Spaceship Wasteland.

Anyway, I can waffle on and on about cloud computing, but the truth is... I don't know much about it. Chances are, most of you don't know much about it either. Like all major disasters, though, this hack serves a higher purpose: it's now blatantly clear that you should not trust a website with sensitive details about yourself. There have been other hacks, of course; higher profile hacks (like the TJ Maxx debacle), with millions of credit card and social security numbers vanishing into the ether, causing billions of dollars of damage.
But they pale in comparison to the Gawker hack for one reason: it directly affected a huge swathe of the noisy, foot-stomping and petulant tech blogging minority.

No Lock for Android disables "slide to unlock" keyguard
My Android device has a tiny power button, and it's usually in a holster. Really, what are the odds of me turning it on accidentally?
If you purchased previously reviewed power-tool Tasker, you can use it to selectively disable the slide to unlock feature, amongst the myriad of other things it can do.
However, if you didn't purchase Tasker, or are just looking for a quick and free solution, No Lock might be right up your alley.
This no-frills app presents a huge button you can press to toggle the keyguard. When the keyguard is off, you need only press the power button on your device to start interacting with it - no sliding involved.
There's also a handy 1x1 widget you can put on your homescreen and tap whenever you want to toggle the keyguard. The only feature I wish it had is a "dual button" unlock, whereby I can press the power button and then the camera button to unlock; I think that could definitely keep me from switching the device on accidentally. Still, for most cases, No Lock gets the job done. You can find its QR code after the jump.

Aza Raskin leaves Mozilla to found health startup Massive Health
Aza Raskin, the genius behind many of Mozilla's design and usability innovations, is leaving the company. In his blog post, Raskin applauds Mozilla on many accounts, so it doesn't seem as though the move is made due to any sort of ill will; it appears as though Raskin simply wants to do something new.
That "something new" is a startup called Massive Health. Through Massive Health, Raskin hopes to put his design chops to use for helping people lose weight and deal with other chronic health issues. As can be expected, they already have a very well-designed webpage, but not much else at this stage.
This is a major loss for Mozilla; with Chrome quickly gaining traction in the browser market and still out-performing Firefox, at least in UI responsiveness, Mozilla's game of catch-up just became a tad more challenging.

Chromey Calculator combines the power of Wolfram Alpha and Google Calculator
Take the awesome power of Wolfram Alpha; add the convenience and intelligence of Google's built-in calculator. Now mix them up and serve in a piping hot Chrome add-on: Chromey Calculator.
When you click the extension's humble button, it opens a quick prompt pane (you can also pop it out to its own separate Chrome window). You can then feed it with any expression Wolfram Alpha or Google Calculator understands, and even mix those expressions up.
Chromey Calculator decides whether to use Google or Wolfram Alpha. You can see what engine it used for your calculation by hovering over a result; clicking the logo takes you to the source page (handy mostly for Wolfram Alpha calculations, which usually yield interesting graphs).
The add-on even supports variables. One proposed example goes like this:
@Everest = height of Everest
@K2 = height of K2
@Everest - @K2 in meters
So this basically takes the height of Everest and of K2 (the world's second-highest mountain) and calculates the difference - all within your Chrome window, without opening any other sites or tabs.
This is very powerful stuff; the only limit is your imagination - I would love to hear any interesting examples in the comments.

Basically, once Santa gets on the move -- around 2am EST on December 24 -- you can follow his movements, either in 2D or 3D, on your computer or your phone, and with Google Maps or Google Earth; just search for 'santa'. For the truly festive, there's even a NORAD Twitter account, which will presumably tweet Santa's current location in real time!
After the break, there's a video of what the experience looked like last year. I imagine it will look much the same this year, unless Santa has updated his GPS navigation hardware. Also, who knew that Rudolf's nose was quite so radiant?
